The NIA Zambales Irrigation Management Office executed a desilting operation at Lateral B of the Upper Bagsit River Irrigation System in the Municipality of Palauig, Zambales on April 29, 2024, in anticipation of the forthcoming wet cropping season. The operation encompassed the extraction of accumulated silt and debris from the canal and dam to reinstate its capacity and efficacy. This maintenance endeavor holds paramount importance in facilitating unimpeded water flow to the 350 hectares of farmlands in the area. Furthermore, the 154 farmers from 1st Damayan IA in Barangay Bulawen, Palauig, Zambales, reliant on this irrigation system are poised to witness enhancements in their agricultural productivity. This initiative is in alignment with the government's endeavors to bolster the agricultural sector and ameliorate the livelihoods of farmers in the province.
Looking forward, the Zambales IMO's proposal to undertake desilting operations on other irrigation systems within the province evinces a proactive stance toward maintenance, ensuring the preparedness of the irrigation infrastructure for the exigencies of the impending rainy season
