Paving the way for a more efficient and sustainable irrigation system, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has launched its Nationwide Strategic Planning Workshop and Assessment for the CY 2024 Inventory of Irrigation Systems and Operations Department Activities. The five-day workshop, held at the NIA Region III Farmers' Training Center from February 17 to 21, 2025, brings together key regional personnel to streamline operations, enhance data accuracy, and strengthen the future of the country’s irrigation systems.
Led by NIA Deputy Administrator for Engineering and Operations concurrent Regional Manager Engr. Josephine B. Salazar and Operations Department Manager Engr. Eusebio Villamanto. Also present in the said event are Acting Equipment Management Division Manager Engr. Marcial G. Gealone Jr., Systems Management Division Manager Engr. Ma. Lourdes J. Garriga, Acting Planning and Programming Division Manager Patrick Rillon and with the personnel from the Central Office. Additionally, the Overview, Objective and expected output of the program for the SMD, IDD, IEC and EMD were covered.
Each day features regional presentations, starting with Region III (Feb 17), followed by Region I (Feb 18), CAR (Feb 19), Region II (Feb 20), and MARIIS (Feb 21). Discussions focus on updating and reconciling irrigation system inventories, validating service areas, and mapping out restored and generated farmlands from 2018 to 2024.
Aside from data reconciliation, the workshop emphasizes climate resilience strategies, optimizing irrigation equipment deployment, and ensuring accurate reporting of physical accomplishments. By integrating these improvements and with data-driven decision-making at its core, this initiative ensures that when irrigation flows efficiently, agriculture thrives and communities prosper.
