Taking a progressive step toward sustainable agriculture, the NIA Pampanga-Bataan Irrigation Management Office (PamBat IMO), led by Engr. Alexius S. Academia, Acting Chief of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Section of the Porac Gumain River Irrigation System (PGRIS), supported farmers from Valdez and Cabangcalan, Floridablanca, Pampanga, during field interviews conducted by Faeger and Yanmar Companies on November 11, 2024.
Before the field interviews, representatives from Faeger and Yanmar paid a courtesy call to PamBat IMO Manager, Engr. Ruben R. Llamas, to discuss the itinerary and ensure a smooth assessment process.
The goal of the site assessment was to identify potential areas for the implementation of the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) technology, which could help farmers earn carbon credits. During the interviews, farmers shared their agricultural practices, including planting techniques, use of herbicides and insecticides, and the size of their cultivated lands. The discussions also explored their interest in adopting AWD—a water-saving method that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and presents the opportunity for farmers to generate additional income through carbon credits.
Through this collaboration with Faeger and Yanmar, PamBat IMO seeks to support farmers in improving their livelihoods while promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging climate-smart agricultural practices.
