To welcome the year of 2018, NIA employees and officials nationwide simultaneously spin a whirligig or much known as Pinwheel. A new way of saying hello to the first working hour of the year.
The symbolic meaning of a pinwheel is “to turn one’s luck around?” Chinese culture believes the pinwheel is an instrument to turn obstacles into opportunities, thus it has a close relationship to NIA’s adopted new theme “Transforming Challenges into Infinite Opportunities.
The nationwide activity was conducted after the flag raising ceremony on January 2, 2018 to all NIA offices. Officials and employees joyfully catching the wind holding pinwheels for it to spin. Some even used to run as a playing child to feel the furious whirring of the pinwheel catching the early morning breeze.
For many the pinwheel is an icon for childhood innocence and happy memories of youthful experiences.
