TECHNICAL BRIEFING AND CAPACITY BUILDING ON SOIL TEST KIT UTILIZATION FOR ENHANCED FERTILIZATION PRACTICES

Soil degradation, climate change, and rising input costs are some of the issues faced by the Philippines' agricultural sector. In response to this, the National Irrigation Administration is launching a nationwide Technical Briefing and Capacity Building on Soil Test Kit Utilization for Enhanced Fertilization Practices, scheduled at the NIA Region III Farmers Training Center on February 4-5, 2025.

The two-day workshop involves NIA personnel, led by Luisito Ruel S. San Miguel, Division Manager, Irrigation Engineering Center – Operations Department in collaboration with experts from the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) to demonstrate use and interpretation of soil test kits plus create effective fertilization plans from case studies and exercise.

Resource speakers are Wilfredo O. De Mesa Jr. MBA - Agriculturist II, Christine Joy G. Lasola and Mary Joy N. Gumangan – Science Research Specialist I, and Bianca Given Albania – Administrative Assistant III of DA-BSWM

This initiative will enable NIA employees to assist farmers in more accurate and cost-effective fertilization, hence a healthier, more sustainable agricultural sector. Participants will also design action plans to share the gained knowledge with Irrigators Association leaders and farmers.
