The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) is distributing hybrid seeds under a contract farming program to help farmers reduce agricultural inputs as they prepare for the third cropping season. The program equips farmers with modern irrigation technologies to boost crop yields and raise the general productivity of rice cultivation.
In line with this, the staff of the Institutional Development Unit (IDU) through the leadership of Engr. Alvin Roberto A. David, Acting Division Manager of NIA Tarlac IMO, successfully distributed seeds to the Irrigators Associations (IAs) of Communal Irrigation Systems (CISs) on May 29-30, 2024, at the Tarlac IMO Covered Court, Jefmin, Concepcion, Tarlac. The distributed seeds are the NSIC 222 and NSIC RC 402 varieties and will be planted across 90.50 hectares. The participating IAs are the Sta. Monica Kabalantian IA, Castillo Farmer Settlers IA, and Dungan-San Francisco IA. The distributed seeds were given to farmers who participated in the said program.
This initiative is part of NIA's Rice Contract Farming Program which aims to enhance rice production and ensure agricultural productivity of the region.
