TROPICAL STORM KRISTINE

Despite the continuous rains caused by Tropical Storm Kristine, the NIA Bulacan Irrigation Management Office (BIMO) under the leadership of IMO Manager Engr. Placida C. Cordero and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Section led by the Acting Chief Engr. Janelle I. Santos and Water Control Coordinating Unit Head (WCCU) Mr. Francisco J. Clara, ramped-up the monitoring activities and conducted site inspections at key irrigation infrastructure sites.

The Angat Afterbay Regulator Dam (AARD) in Barangay Talampas, Bustos, Bulacan is at the forefront of these efforts. During a typhoon, this facility helps manage and control water flow from the Angat River and its tributaries. It helps regulate the excess water flow by controlling the release of water downstream.

To ensure the safety and functionality of the AARD, NIA’s O&M personnel worked tirelessly, conducting real-time inspections and assessments. This proactive approach aimed to address potential risks, to mitigate the impact of excessive rainfall, to reduce the risk of flooding in low-lying areas, and to prevent possible damages to nearby communities and agricultural lands.
