NIA PAMBAT IMO AND PGRIS IA JOIN HANDS FOR RESILIENT FARMING AND EFFICIENT IRRIGATION

With the vision to increase agricultural productivity and make effective use of water resources, the NIA Pampanga-Bataan Irrigation Management Office (PamBat IMO) and the Main Canal North Irrigators Association (IA) of the Porac Gumain River Irrigation System (PGRIS) conducted an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) meeting on November 22, 2024.

The meeting was led by Engr. Alexius S. Academia, Acting Chief of the O&M Section of PGRIS. Preparations for the next dry crop season in 2025 were discussed, including current planting activities, challenges encountered from the previous season, and preferred rice varieties. There was also discussion on the strategy to be adopted for dealing with bird interference on precision seeding.

A major highlight of the meeting was the approach toward canal maintenance to ensure efficient irrigation for the coming cropping season. Both parties recognized the manpower constraints, and in a display of community spirit, the IA members offered to assist with the maintenance of the Main Canal North. To support this effort, NIA PamBat IMO will provide grass-cutting equipment.

This collaboration between NIA PamBat IMO and the Main Canal North IA is expected to contribute significantly to the long-term productivity of the region's agriculture while developing a more sturdy and efficient irrigation infrastructure. Through these initiatives, both groups will work towards building a resilient future for local farming communities that will ensure consistent and high-quality rice production for the years ahead.
